APPEARANCE

Ariene stands at an average height, with olive skin and a well-endowed physique. She has long dark brown hair that she usually ties up into a high ponytail, leaving her side fringe loose. She has brown eyes.

Ariene always alternates outfits, however her go-to is a white singlet top, with a rose-pink long skirt that’s tied up from the front, revealing her left leg. She wears beige heeled sandals – not the most practical when sailing, but she loves feeling tall. She also can’t be seen without some pink lip gloss. Ariene wears a special pink beaded bracelet with a golden butterfly pendant attached to it. This is a gift from Mercurii.

PERSONALITY

Despite dealing with slight trauma from The Silence, Ariene keeps her head up. She’s optimistic, friendly and caring especially towards her loved ones. She always puts other people before her, and works hard to reach any goal she sets, be it minor or major.

Ariene has a very bubbly side, and laughs at the strangest things. It could be a tree, it could be a chair. It’s not hard to amuse her at all. There’s times where she will complain that she’s tired or hungry, but her current voyage has made her more awake and less distracted by her appetite. She also has bursts of dance moves, especially when she’s bored or excited about something.

With her fashion background, Ariene tends to be observant of what people wear. Usually she’ll suggest an altering of what they’re wearing, whether its to remove or add bits and pieces to their outfit. She would even say this to an opponent during a fight, should there ever be that occasion. And with Ariene’s love for animals comes her weakness to cute things. Anything of a feline species is what she’s the weakest to. She’ll approach them, squealing and making weird noises which probably freaks the poor things out.

Ariene is sympathetic towards others, which can make her somewhat gullible at times. She tends to fear a few things, but is learning to overcome them as it is only her and Mercurii on this voyage. She also fires up when anyone special to her is in harm’s way or being offended, most of the time acting on impulse to stand up for them. She also lacks confidence in fighting, the idea that she is weak embedded in her mind.

Ariene has no special abilities. She has expertise in kickboxing, something that she learnt in her teenage years.

Lav, the lapid cat

Lav is a rare species of Lapid Cat, with fur in the colour scheme of fire and a Tiger's Eye crystal embedded on his forehead. He's loyal and loving to Ariene, and his friendliness to anyone depends on Ariene's body language around them.

Living in Rara, Ariene pursued a career in fashion designing, forming her own label 'P.A' and boutique. Her clothes, shoes and accessories are famous for their unique patterns inspired by the many creatures of the island. While travelling, Ariene's inspiration has expanded, and in her free time creates many more designs inspired by creatures of different towns, and even nature.

History

In the New World, there exists a large island, by the name of Rara Island – the island of rare and exotic animals. Rara Island is odd in the fact that it is home to several different biomes, divided into five different areas. The woodlands and forest are to the south (Silva Forests), the desert is to the north (Harenae Desert), the jungle is to east (Saltu Jungles), the grasslands, coniferous and highlands are to the west (Arbor Lands), and finally, in the centre is the snowy mountains, the arctic and tundra zone (Nix Mountains). Rara Island is well-known for the variety in its unusual creatures that are exclusive to the island alone, and the diversity in these animals. Across the island are many different towns and villages, but the capital ‘city’, is Port Victoria, located in the Arbor Lands. Born and raised in Port Victoria was Ariene by her parents, and she is the younger sister to her brother Tristan. In her younger years, she spent her time growing passions for things. She always had a sense of adventure, playing pretend in the neighbourhood with Tristan. She grew to enjoy singing, dancing and crafting jewellery and clothes out of seashells, rags and other bizarre materials. Above all else however, she adored animals. Ariene loved seeing the creatures of Rara Island roam around the city, and frequently dragged her family to visit the sanctuaries. With this came her ambition of becoming a veterinarian.

At 6, Ariene’s parents separated. It was a time where she felt quite lost. Her father decided to join a crew and sail the seas, despite the rarity of anyone who resides in the New World setting sail, due to the harsh sea conditions. Through this she helped her mum, as well as maintaining an even closer bond with Tristan. Ariene had no interest in the sea regardless, especially because she believed that it took her dad away.

The years ahead was calm before the storm, the storm arriving when Ariene was 12. A fleet of pirates raided the whole of Rara Island. Citizens fought back, while the majority hid. It was war...

A war for the animals.

The animals of Rara were nothing ordinary. They had traits that were appealing and exotic to the eye. However for the greedy, all they could see in these special animals were beri signs.

Violence and obliteration in each biome created a ghost town, forever known as The Silence. Animals were stolen, citizens died, and homes were in ruins, including Ariene’s. The vibrance was taken away, as well as the ambient melodies by the creatures. The survivors grieved, however worked together to restore what they could. Unfortunately as the years passed, the lack of animals in town and trauma caused Ariene to lose motivation in keeping her veterinarian ambition alive.

Over the years Port Victoria was restored. In the meantime, her mother was remarried and had a newborn son. However with new family in Ariene's life came loss as well. Shortly after the silence, Tristan disappeared with no notice. Not knowing if he was dead or alive, Ariene was left confused and empty. Her older brother and best friend was gone.

When Ariene turned 17, she became a busy girl. Her new pathway was towards fashion, designing clothes with a dream of opening her own boutique in the next year. Many of her designs of clothes, shoes and accessories were inspired by her memory of Rara Island’s creatures, as well as the last few that remained. Heading out one day to search for some new inspiration, Ariene swore she could hear faint meowing from the distance. As she spoke, she received responses. This helped her follow the direction of the noise, leading towards a forestal area, and a pile of wood. The meowing was very loud now, and Ariene’s first move was to throw the rather heavy pieces of wood away. This revealed a small kitten, very unique to the eye. Little did she know of its species - a Lapid cat, but she instantly fell in love with him. He was orange, with red and partially yellow stripes, with a beautiful gem embedded on his forehead, being a Tiger’s Eye. As she lifted him and held him tightly in her arms, the sweet sound of purring brought a tear to her eye. As she vowed to give Lav all her love and care, Lav had suddenly reminded her of her admiration for animals. She took him home and fed him, and during the night, he rested on her laps as she created a line of clothing inspired by his colouring, which was the catalyst for her name as Port Victoria’s famous fashion designer, managing to open her dream boutique at 18 years of age. The money she made, majority was given to her family so they could have a better living.

At 21, Ariene had the day off, roaming around the city with her companion, Lav. The sight of unique creatures caught her eye, which were following a young woman who looked Ariene’s age. She had to go and check them out, so she got to meet them as well as befriend this young woman by the name of Mercurii, who was visiting Port Victoria from her distant location, Cataracta Town in the Silva region. Bonding ever-so quickly with their mutual love of animals, they made contact with each other everyday through letters and their transponder snails.

Then, one conversation came up. Considering how much they loved Rara Island’s animals, mentioning The Silence was inevitable. This led to the possibility of finding whatever animals remained, for they were sure that the pirates who took the animals away planned breeding of all species stolen to prevent extinction. The ones they were to find on their search, they would bring back to the island.

The only way to get to these animals was to travel by sea. Ariene was skeptical. Her father left to sail, and she believed her brother did the same. She didn’t want to leave her mother, but her family supported it. With her stepfather promising that her mother was in good hands, she finally gave in.

Ariene put her brand on hold and sold her boutique. She had plans to return to it, but not before reaching her and Mercurii’s new goal - to bring the animals back to where they belong. With the money they had saved and supplies, the duo began their voyage at 23 years old. It was finally time to revive Rara Island.

Tristan (@FatedRevolution)

Tristan is Ariene's older brother. Through growing up, he played the part of not only being a brother, but a dear friend. The two became closer and more protective of one another upon their father's sudden departure, making it hard for Ariene to move on from Tristan running away without notice after the events of The Silence. She doesn't think the worst, instead she believes he is out there somewhere, facing challenges and working on achieving his dreams, whatever they may be. She misses and loves him dearly, and is hopeful during her voyage that she will cross paths with him one day.

Mercurii (@WritingOceans)

It seemed that fate played its role in uniting Ariene and Mercurii, one day upon seeing each other's unique Rara companions and bonding ever since. Mercurii is Ariene's best friend who lived in Cataracta Town. They communicated through letters and Den Den Mushis, always talking about their love for animals and how they believed they were out there somewhere. This eventually led them to begin their voyage, their mutual goal to rescue the creatures of their home.

Mercurii and Ariene complement each other in many ways, having different knowledge and experiences to learn off of each other. Ariene has the tendency to freak out a lot, while Mercurii is always level headed in situations, maybe a little too much, but this is influencing Ariene in developing more courage to step out of her comfort zone and face whatever challenges come their way, driven by not only her dream, but her new promise to protect Mercurii just as much as she is being protected by her.
